Platt Park - Denver Colorado
Posted in:
South
First established in the 1880’s, Platt Park is a neighborhood steeped in charm.
Originally incorporated as the Town of South Denver, the town was formed to restrict the creation of the saloons and roadhouses that had become a threat to decent living in the downtown areas. The 100-block area surrounds a 4.4-acre park named for James Platt, an early Denver leader. The park is home to the Fleming estate, which was annexed to the City of Denver in 1894. The beautiful stone mansion has housed many community entities, including a library and a jail. Built in 1913, the Decker branch of the Denver Public Library system is another community asset that is located within the park, as well as the Senior Community Center.
